Annamarie was trained at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, one of the country’s most rigorous nursing programs. Her 30 year nursing career has taken her in many directions, from Oncology, High Risk Obstetrics and Home Health Care to many years in a variety of Intensive Care Nursing Specialties. Ms. Sloss brings a diversity to the assisted living model that is unique and hard to match.
In 2008, with her husband Dr. David Brody, Annamarie founded NorthCountry Manor. She believed that assisted living was a venue that would allow her to use her experience in nursing in a way that focused more on wellness, and provide for a more intimate, personal and sustained relationship with her residents. “It’s the personal touch and connection that makes this work so satisfying. Too often, a senior who is living alone can experience isolation and loneliness. This isolation can affect a senior’s overall health and wellness. At NorthCountry Manor we strive to help residents maintain their highest level of independent function while ensuring their dignity, safety and well-being. Our home offers privacy as well as a sense of community, in addition to the many services provided. The size and setting of our home allows for a more individualized, personal approach. Staff and residents develop meaningful, supportive relationships.”
Dr. David Brody grew up in the greater Boston area, received his undergraduate degree from MIT and had his medical training at Tufts University. After several years of practicing in the Boston area he found himself drawn to the quieter pace of rural life, and in 1994 moved to the North Country and opened a solo practice in St. Johnsbury.
Dr. Brody has been involved in NorthCountry Manor from the very beginning, whether in renovating the building, constructing raised garden beds or in direct care of the residents. “Though I’m not required to check my medical training at the door”, he says, “what is so gratifying to me is that I get to take on a care-taking role that is less about treating illness, and more about living the best life that one can.”
Kathryn Moritz is the Manager at NorthCountry Manor. She graduated with a degree in English from the University of Vermont and an MA from Dartmouth College. Over the past two years Kathryn has progressively been involved in virtually every aspect of resident care. She prepares meals, engages in direct hands-on care, develops marketing strategies, meets with resident families, and helps ensure the daily needs of residents and their families are met.
